Prevent Overeating While Working From Home
The pandemic has caused countless changes to our daily lives. More than ever before, people are working from home. This alters the way we eat and can cause us to eat too much or snack on unhealthy foods.
At home we always have access to food. You’re sitting at your desk and get up to go to the bathroom. On your way back, you pass the fridge and can’t help but pop it open to take a look at what it has to offer. What’s inside is typically unhealthy. This is a problem…
It is important to have a healthy routine in place so that our bodies and minds expect us to continue to eat healthy foods. However, there are other things that we can do to limit the amount of sugar, calories, and fat we take in.
- Prepare Health Snacks
It is good to always have fruits and vegetables cut up and ready to eat. Not only are they nutritious, but they can also make you feel less full while limiting the amount you eat. By having them prepared and ready to go, you are less likely to grab something less healthy. Instead, it will be just as easy to grab fruit or veggies.
- Workspace Location
It is important to have a workspace that you feel good about. A positive workspace promotes productivity. However, it is important to think about the location if you have been overeating during the day. To limit overeating, never have your workspace close to the refrigerator. If you can access food easily, you are more likely to go often and eat a lot. Lastly, it is good to eat away from your workstation. Taking a short break from working can cause an increase in productivity upon return.
- Move Around
Working from home and social distancing does not mean that are exercise routines should be put on the back burner. Exercise is great for mental health and improving your mood can help you eat less. Also, sometimes we eat when we are bored. Exercise gives your mind and body something else to do.
- Stay Hydrated
Sometimes when we are thirsty, the feeling of hunger quickly follows. Staying hydrated is important for overall health and when we work from home we often forget to drink enough. Keep a mental tab of how much water you drink each day and increase it if needed. Dehydration can cause us to feel fatigued and moody. People eat when they are moody and tired, so dehydration is an easy step to take to avoid overeating. In addition to drinking plenty of water, it is also good to keep an eye on any other beverages you consume.
- Plan
Planning your meals ahead of time can help to curb your desires to snack. It is also great to eat when you are hungry and quit when you get full. Planning using a journal can also help you see your eating habits objectively. If you write down everything you eat it will be easy to see where your problems lie and what you can do to stop overeating.
Overeating is a common problem. However, the increase in remote work has made this problem a part of our daily lives. These suggestions should help you understand your eating habits and reduce the amount you eat.
